On Superpowers and Kryptonite
When going through this website, you may have asked yourself: What’s with these Superpowers and Kryptonite?
While working with children, we (the kids and me) often found that the stories of Superman were so beneficial as a narrative toward healing. They often found that they were feeling powerless and did not know why.
Something was sapping their strength to the point where they could barely move. So, we went on a quest to search for the child’s kryptonite that needed neutralizing.
What is your Kryptonite?
Kryptonite is what takes away your enthusiasm, your life force energy, your joy in life – leaving you depressed, anxious, or angry. Kryptonite is very personal. What depletes one person does not affect another.
Living through the COVID epidemic is a worldwide example of Kryptonite, causing subsequent lockdowns, working from home, isolation, and being cooped up with others. The epidemic had a profound effect on most of us. However, some people seem only to experience annoyance by its restrictions, while others are seriously affected by the experience.
There are also more personal forms of Kryptonite. One-half of identical twins was severely depressed and anxious; the other was not. The first twin was bullied; the other did not have any issues with this.
Kryptonite can also be embedded in your soul, disrupting the relationship you have with your higher self, your communication with Spirit, or with your spiritual or religious community.
Neutralizing Kryptonite
Because Kryptonite is so unpredictable in its effect, identifying and finding Kryptonite can be a process in itself. However, once we have found it, we set out together to find ways to neutralize it.
Neutralizing Kryptonite could happen through work on self-esteem, communication, social skills, or learning to forgive yourself or somebody else. Or perhaps, we uncovered a hidden learning disability, and the neutralizing effect starts by alerting parents and the school or by putting support in place.
Suppose Kryptonite has embedded itself through a traumatic event. In that case, we can chip away at the substance of the Kryptonite by processing the feelings and emotions and visualizing it to watch it go away.
Exploring Superpowers
When we are chipping away atKryptonitee, the curious thing is that we simultaneously uncover the hidden superpowers. Everybody has superpowers; it is a miraculous thing.
One person may have the sharpest observation skills, while others may be born negotiators. Some discovered that they could communicate well with animals, while others finally had space for creativity.
Did you know that many children with dyslexia can often not spell a word, but in their mind, they can view every object in three – or sometimes even four – dimensions? And did you know that children with ADHD often can work on multiple levels simultaneously, have the energy of three people, and, with a few organizational skills, could be the most productive people on the block?
So often, children and adults with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) struggle with social skills, but their focus and intuition can be laser-sharp.
Let’s define and neutralize your kryptonite!
These are only some of the many examples from my practice. If you are eager to find and neutralize yourKryptonitee and are enthusiastic about finding your superpower, give me a call.
